Help Me, Rhonda (Or Whomever)

By next Monday, I need to submit an author photo to Moon to go with my book. This photo will appear on the inside back cover next to my author bio. It can also be used for publicity purposes and could appear in any articles or reviews that may ever be written about the book. Ahh, the pressure! What picture to choose. This task has been hanging over my head for weeks, but I just can't make a decision. First of all, I don't have that many pictures of myself. We tend to take pictures of bugs and birds and trees and flowers and waterfalls and vistas...but not people. Secondly, in the photos I do have of myself, I'm usually being goofy and making strange faces. And thirdly, I can't decide what style I want this photo to have. Do I want more of a headshot or something taken from farther away? Do I want to look like a hiker (to give me some credence since this is a hiking book) or do I want to look pretty?

I don't know. So I want your opinion. Below you will find the photos under consideration. Please leave me a comment and let me know which one you think I should choose. (You can leave a second and third place vote too if you like...in case they come back to me and decide the one I choose is to close up or too far away, or you know, too pretty:-) )

Also, if you're interested, you can go to the Moon Homepage and check out the various guides through the links under the Handbooks, Metro, Outdoors, and Living Abroad sections on the right side. You can then click on any title to see the author photos of others.

Please, please, please vote. This decision can not be left up to me alone!

(The image will appear in black and white in most places, which is why I'm showing them to you that way, even though they are all actually color photos.)

(Also, I've posted twice today---prolific, I know. So after you vote, go read the post below too if you haven't already.)

I like #6, then # 3. They are outdoorsy but don't limit you to hiking and that is good for other writings that may be done about you and or the book. I also like #2 but it is too far away.

P.S. You always look pretty!

Maybe you should link this to your RTW Blog. Not sure why there is a ? in my name above. I know I am your Mom.

3 or 4 depending on what they are looking for. They look the most authorial. You look a little "slow" in 5, and you look younger in the sixth photo.

Don't like the action photo #1, or the "far away" #2.

I personally like 1, but I guess three works the best.

Hi Theresa! (I've been following your adventures on the other website and found this one from there). I hope you're enjoying Sweden! It's kind of funny that now that you're done with SAAM (sad) I am seeing more of Jessica (good) even if it's just for a few when she drops off a PO :)

Um, anyway... So I totally understand the picking-a-picture dilemma and thought I'd chime in just in case it helps.

I actually like #1 if you want to go with an "action" shot. (I would pick #2 but it's so far away - though it's still really cute.)

If you want to go with a head shot, I think # 6 is the best picture of you. (for what little all that is worth!)

I'm going against the grain here, but I absolutely love #1 and #2. I think they capture you very well, as well as give you some hiking/outdoor cred.

#3 would come third.

I vote against #6 because you look really young.

I like #1 because it's the most appropriate for the book. You look like you're squinting in the sun in #3. I think #6 is the prettiest, but it doesn't scream "I am an authority on hiking."

They're all very good though, pretty girl!

#1 and #6 are my favorites... you look beautiful in all of them though :)

#1 or #3 fo sho!

#1 if you want to come across as a hiking authority

#3 if you want to come across as an author

Hey Theresa! I used to work in PR and here's what I think.

#1 Yes - I believe that you wrote this book. You look adventurous. Also if they cropped to just your face - as they might - it looks great. You should definitely pick this one!

#2 No - Too far away and your eyes look squinty.

#3 No - your eyes are squinty.

#4 No you look too old

#5 Yes - you look very personable.

#6 No - you can't see your eyes.

I like 1 and 3 almost equally. They're definitely the best for an author photo...and I'm always right! ;-) hehe

I looked at the other Moon Outdoors Books and I think you should go with #1. It definitely fits the nature of the book. I just wish it was a little more closeup.

I like #1 the best.

Number one definately. It is more about who you are and what you want to live for.

#1,3,6 in that order! anne

Hi Theresa. I like #1 best, and #3 as an alternate. They seem to capture aspects of your personality. If the publisher demands a closeup, then I'd probably go with #5. Congrats on completing the book!!

#1! Love it.

Hi T!
I like #5 the best... though your mom is right, you look great in all of them. I like number 1 too. Number 6 is good but too dark. I can't see your eyes!

Isn't there one of you in Rock Creek Park, hiking through a little stream? Maybe you should use that one...

Oh, wait.....

Looks like I was the trend setter for #1. Woo me!

Thanks for all the comments. I sent them number 1.

Three. Sorry so late with the response!

So your deadline is way passed, but I really like 3 and 2.

One looks very posed...like someone told you to walk across the view finder.

I'm curious to know which one you decided on!!

So I think I am way too late but I love #1 and I LOVE this blog. I have to admit, I am very jealous of you adventures!
